Sites for the production of enzymes and other proteins

The BioProducts division combines all of the Group's product-related activities for application-based fermentation and formulation with a focus on food and life science. Specialty enzymes for the production of food, beverages, pharmaceutical products and other life science applications are produced on a commercial scale.

Biocatalysts Ltd. is the holding company for these activities and is wholly owned by BRAIN Biotech AG.

Biocatalysts Ltd's BioProducts sites have extensive fermentation and scale-up experience with various microbial production organisms, complemented by industry expertise and knowledge of the associated regulatory requirements.

If our product portfolio does not include a suitable specialty enzyme for our customers, we offer tailor-made solutions in cooperation with our R&D site in Zwingenberg: From the identification of an enzyme, which is available as a digital concept in a database, to the production of enzymes in industrial quantities.

UK: Biocatalysts Cardiff, Wales

Biocatalysts Ltd is a commercial scale manufacturer of specialty enzymes for the food, pharmaceutical and life science industries. The state-of-the-art production facilities at the Cardiff site include a vertically integrated manufacturing process for the production, development and optimization of novel enzymes, fermented proteins and pharmaceutical biocatalysts. This process reduces project risk and time to market. Biocatalysts is certified according to FSSC 22000, ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.

The Netherlands: Biocatalysts Nieuwkuijk

The Biocatalysts Nieuwkuijk operation site in the south-central region of the Netherlands specializes in all types of enzyme applications in the cereal and bakery industry. The team consists of experienced experts who are trained in milling, bakery (bread, pastries in the broadest sense, pasta, etc.) and the basics of the functional ingredients required for these markets. The Biocatalysts Nieuwkuijk operation site is FSSC 22.000 certified. All products are kosher and halal-certified; the emulsifiers are RSPO-certified. The operation site has been part of Biocatalysts Ltd. since March 2024.

Germany: Biocatalysts Büttelborn

The Biocatalysts Büttelborn site provides customized, ready-to-use enzymes for the food and beverage industry and related markets. From its state-of-the-art production facility near Frankfurt/Main, the site supplies multinational food brands and private brand producers of fruit juices, wine and beer as well as processors of sugar, starch, potable alcohol and bioethanol. The Biocatalysts Büttelborn operations are certified under the ISO 9001 and FSSC 22000 food safety management quality systems and audited accordingly on a yearly basis. The site has belonged to Biocatalysts Ltd. since November 2023.

USA: Biocatalysts Tampa, Florida

The Tampa site produces, blends and distributes a full range of food ingredients including flavors, enzymes, natural colors and specialty food ingredients. In the United States, the site operating under tha name BIOSUN Biochemicals In. is one of the main distributors of Givaudan´s flavors in selected industries. Since January 1, 2021, the US company has been part of the BRAIN Biotech Group, and since March 2024, Biosun has been a subsidiary of Biocatalysts Ltd.
